We Have a Winner in the House

Ignited would like to congratulate our own Irisa Charles and her team, 8 Papers, for winning the 4A’s 2018 Southern California Institute of Advanced Advertising Studies Monty McKinney Award. The judges loved her team’s very on-brand strategic handle/big idea “Start Making Waves” along with their ability to bring to life their new target (the Aspiring-Aspiring Adapter) that will consume Corona in a can (instead of their iconic bottle).

The 4A’s Southern California Institute of Advanced Advertising Studies (IAAS) is the preeminent advertising agency training program in the country. Designed for promising agency professionals with two (2) to four (4) years of experience across all disciplines – creative, media, research, planning, account management, public relations, direct marketing, digital, social and mobile – the 4A’s IAAS program has trained some of the best and brightest industry professionals in the business. In fact, many of today’s top agency executives are IAAS graduates.

With a comprehensive, incremental 12-to-14 week long course of studies, the IAAS recruits faculty, judges, and mentors from leading area agencies, as well as outside the marketplace, to deliver cutting-edge instruction and substantive assessment. Participants are given an actual client assignment, form their own “mini-agencies,” and develop a total advertising program. Teams compete by “pitching” their work to the client.

IAAS programs are operated throughout the United States in 8 markets:

  • Southern California
  • Atlanta
  • Dallas
  • New England
  • Philadelphia
  • Chicago
  • Minneapolis
  • New York

The program includes many of the most highly recognized industry experts as guest lecturers in their specific fields, providing students with the tools required and application to a real-life client-sponsored case study in competition with their peers for the Monty McKinney Award. Students attended class at UCLA one evening per week and then worked with their teammates to prepare a final deliverable in the form of a competitive presentation addressing the case study assignment.

The course ran from February to May culminating with student team presentations to a guest judging panel made up of guest lecturers and client/agency representatives, including Corona. The winner of the Monty McKinney Award was announced at the 4A’s Awards Banquet on May 22.

Congratulations to the winning team and all the competitors, including Ignited’s Crystal Kim! Your hard work really paid off.
